I've got our bibs and stuff for Gate River Run. This year's expo was held at the practice field, which I'd never been to before. As usual it was an easy in and out - bibs, shirts, then you get a pint glass or a coffee mug (Fox liked the glass, I get mugs) and this year they also have some of those "bib board" clips. They can secure your bib without making holes like a safety pin, so they're kind of nice. I had some from runDisney but lost them.

New this year, a lot of these emergency vehicle barriers. It's unfortunate that we need them. I guess Fox and I are far from being the only people to worry about cars coming onto the course.

I also dropped by Chamblin Book Mine to make my TBR pile a little taller, with copies of Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard, and Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer. I needed to kill some time before my assigned pick-up slot and I'd left the house pretty early to gas up the truck, drop stuff off at UPS and a few other small errands.

Some local drama is brewing out here. I know, way out in the woods, right? Someone's putting a house in at the blacktop, and I already don't like him because he's blocked off the old bus stop loop. Apparently someone found out he's a convicted child predator because there were signs up this morning with his address and everything. When I came back, he'd taken them down. The guy isn't regularly at the house yet and it doesn't have power hooked up. But he was there today.

Other than that it's been mercifully quiet here. I'm sleeping more than ever, for some reason, and it's a welcome change of pace. I never slept well growing up, and often had insomnia, which was brushed off. I'm getting about 8.5 hours and it feels pretty deep. Garmin says otherwise, but I tend to ignore it for that. I'm glad my nervous system has finally decided it can stand down.

I needed a day off and Fox encouraged me to go spend some of the ridiculous amounts of store credit I have at Chamblin Bookmine. I think I spent a good two hours there just happily digging through the shelves. In some places they've actually started trying to organize and clean things up, possibly after a photo of the piles of books spilling off a shelf labeled "Feng Shui" made it onto the "Mildly Infuriating" subreddit. LOL maybe not, I don't know, I'm just a customer.

Click to enlarge, of course. I would have bought more but I was getting tired and wanted to start heading home, plus this is quite a stack to be carrying around. I should probably take a bag with me next time.

So I feel rather better. I have a stack of happy new books to paw at, got to spend a fun, quiet afternoon out, and I feel ready to get back to my regular routine.

That was over quickly. I saw the surgeon and was in and out in maybe twenty minutes. It took me longer to find my way around Baptist South than anything. That place is a maze. So he's going to "just" do a needle biopsy first and see what comes back. I'm now waiting on someone to call for an appointment for that. I'm not sure why my GP decided to worry my nerves with that excision stuff.

Also this hospital has a Starbucks in it, for great victory.

I dropped off my scans and stuff at the Breast Center and someone will get in touch with me. Grabbed a coffee. In all I managed to put 2.5 miles on the Fitbit.

The Fresh Market also opened locally, but it wasn't much fun because there are tons of people and I'm not feeling people-y. But I shouldered my way through and picked up some of their spicy Italian sausage (they make fabulous sausage for the omnivores out there), brioche, some marbled rye for my breakfast, and this a pre-mixed bottled margarita that says it's made with agave wine. I'll go back in a couple of weeks when the traffic has died down some so I can shop around better. I also found Belgian endive, which I've been wanting for salad. I would have sworn Publix carried it, but I haven't seen endive for sale since I started looking back in December.

I have no idea what I'm doing with the rest of my afternoon, but I plan on messing around with Minecraft tonight. I may make dinner early, since I had breakfast when I got up this morning and haven't had anything since. I'm looking forward to making eggs in a basket with that brioche.
