The things I've been calling "glass spiders" are actually orchard orb weavers.

We were smoking some chicken yesterday, and when Fox was bringing the temperature probes back inside, he dragged one through a web near the back door. I saw it when I was about to put them in the sink and relocated the spider outside, putting her on a tree next to the deck.

This morning I was happy to find she'd built a new web between the tree and the handrail. I snapped a picture to look up what kind of spider it was, and now I know.
