Big Excitement
Nov. 27th, 2017 03:12 pm Guess what I got, y'all? Just three years after the entire rest of Western Civilization, I have an Instant Pot.
We snagged one a few days ago during an Amazon sale - Fox got an email that the big eight-quart ones were marked down to some stupidly low price and he pounced on it. I was a bit surprised as I thought he wasn't interested in them. Although he may have been teasing me when he said I already had a pressure cooker - and I do have a pressure canning rig that I guess could be used to cook, but it just doesn't seem like a great idea. For one thing, it's huge and takes forever to get up to pressure. Anyway.
I decided I was going to make a pot of chili, since I like chili and haven't had it in a long time. So yeah, I even have beans soaked and everything ready to go. I'm also curious about using the yogurt feature. If it works out well I may write off for a starter culture of skyr - there's a lady online who sells freeze-dried ones that you just reconstitute at home. Since they're freeze-dried you don't even report them to Customs. The bacterial culture isn't active, technically. Yes, I eat enough skyr that getting my own starter would be a worthwhile thing. LOL
Fox is in Chicago doing some training for work, so I have the run of the place. Time for a wild party, huh? Yeah, a pot of chili is about as wild as it gets for me. Tomorrow I'm going through the last room of books and culling the scifi/fantasy collection. Thursday I'm going to Chamblin's with probably four boxes just to start. I have another six that I pulled from the office shelves, but I don't want to take the whole bunch in at one time. If I go over there every two weeks, I'll eventually get rid of all the old books, I won't piss off the intake staff, and I'll rack up plenty of that sweet, sweet store credit. I still have close to ten bucks after picking up I Claudius, Claudius the God, And Then There Were None, and a book on medieval women mystics. I can't help it, I'm a medievalist deep in my weird little heart. I wish I had the BBC's I, Claudius on DVD because I'd be watching that in the evenings. Oh who am I kidding, I'd probably binge watch it in two or three days.
I still need to do the test run on the Instant Pot, and I was going to make a batch of two-bite brownies but I forgot to put butter out to soften, so that will have to wait until later tonight. I need to do some yoga and stretch out my back and legs but I feel lazy. I'm also getting hungry so I might as well test the pot, since the sooner I do the sooner I eat but you know how indecisive you get when you're hungry.
