Crud From the World's Largest Con
Jan. 24th, 2019 08:17 am I've been out of the loop for a couple of days because I have been sick. Fox picked up some form of crud at Disney, then unfortunately, I got it a few days after he'd mostly recovered. Happily, I don't have it quite as badly as he did. For some reason my system fought it off better, but it still put me on my butt for a while, and when I'm sick not only do I not feel like doing anything physical, my mental energy is drained as well so instead of getting much reading or anything like that done I spent most of my time browsing Reddit.
*hangs head in shame*
But today I feel a lot better. Tuesday morning I woke up feeling about 30%, today I feel about 95%. Yesterday I even managed a three-mile run, still at an easy pace but I felt like getting back closer to my usual training pace. I have two more weeks of recovery mode before I start hitting 15k training with an eye towards shaving 8 - 10 minutes off my time. I think this is entirely possible, especially after some of the improvements I saw in Dopey. And this time I'm not running a lot back-to-back so I'll be fresh as a goddamn daisy when I hit the starting line.
Today is mostly going to involve catching up on household things that went undone while I was sick. Fox does help out, but here I mean the nitpicky little things I typically do but don't want to bother him about unless I'm laid up long-term. And that hasn't happened for three or four years now, so knock on wood and all that. Fox found this stuff called Nando's Peri-Peri sauce at Publix and picked up the garlic and XXHot flavors for me, since he knows I'm a hot sauce nut, and today I'm planning to roast a head of cauliflower with the XX. I love buffalo cauliflower so much I once ate half a head by myself, so I have high hopes for this even hotter variant.
Also, because my brain is still stuck in random mode - https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/gas-chamber/
When I first encountered this story it was framed as a guy living in Paris, France who "gassed" himself after a meal of cauliflower. Hilarious as it is, it sadly isn't true. I did spend the rest of the night farting after my cauliflower bender but it was worth it. The head I bought at Publix is kind of small, so I'm going to have to portion it carefully if I want four days of veggie bowls from it. You know, instead of scarfing most of it down while it's still cooling in the sheet pan.
