Mar. 12th, 2025 11:03 amDe-trashing - Yesterday I did another pickup along Villa Nueva, which is my personal project and not the "official" pickup we do along 315 for Keep Clay Beautiful. I filled my bag up in about a mile and a half, but I did make it to the top of the road and turned around to head back. It'll take maybe three more bags to get everything picked up, though I know there will always be more. I need to bring disposable gloves because I found a diaper dump, and since it's rained, the absorbent gunk in them had swelled up and there was no way I could get that with just a grabber. Gross fucking people, STG. Why. Yuck. Fucking diapers, man. ANYWAY. I also got to try out a neat new thing I have - the Garbo Grabber Trash Bagger :D Works a lot better than a bucket. Highly recommended.
Beans - I'm trying a mung bean scramble that Fox found last night that's supposed to be a decent replacement for scrambled eggs. Since Our Dear Leader hasn't managed to make eggs cheap by banning pronouns, it's best to start looking for other protein sources. Mung beans are cheap and easy, I buy bags of them at Jax Oriental for sprouting, but they're good all around. He's not much of a bean fan, but I love beans. One of my favorite sweet treats, anko (餡子), is made of beans. Limas are the only beans I don't like, but everything else is good. It's a little surprising to me, considering I hated beans growing up, but then I found that my mother cooked them badly. She'd boil them to death in plain water, and then serve them to me with no salt or seasoning. I wasn't allowed to put salt, butter, or anything else on my food for some reason. But hey, when you cook beans properly and season them well? They're great. Plus I can out-fart the cat. Take that, Crowley, you little gas factory.
Pincushion Fox - Fox had an appointment with yet another doctor, trying to resolve his foot and leg problems. This guy actually had some workable ideas! Among other things, he recommends an MRI, so we'll be getting that next week. He thinks it may be that one of the nerves is running through a channel where it's being constricted. This is just something that can happen, but it can be corrected, and he normally will first try acupuncture. It can help reduce any swelling in the area and often relieve the pain, though he may have to do it several times. If it doesn't work there's a more painful option that involves trying to flush the channel out with fluids.
Gaming - I recently started replaying Hollow Knight. It really is a tremendously good game. I had SO much trouble with it the first time around, but I was just getting into gaming when I got it. Now I'm finding it challenging but not insanely hard. When I first played I spent every single night for a week trying to defeat Soul Master. This time around I got him on the second try. The platforming sections are difficult, but not driving me out of my mind like before. I remember being incredibly frustrated getting through Queen's Gardens. I'm curious to see how I do in the White Palace, and I might take a shot at the Path of Pain.
Life Lister - The hummingbirds have come back! And last week, Fox spotted a Sage Wren, but for me, I just heard the birds calling and haven't managed to actually SEE one yet. I put it on my life list as a voice ID, but I'd like to actually look at one. I have no idea how much longer they'll be around, but they seem to enjoy hunting for bugs under the back deck. For the hummingbirds, I had one feeder out so they'd know they can still come here for the summer, but I need to put my others up. Since Fox has the rec room door open, he can hear the hummingbirds as they chirp and fight.
