Feb. 5th, 2025 03:46 pmThis afternoon I threw on my ruck and went out for a little walk. I've started looking for shed deer antlers, though it might be a little early. I went about four miles with fifteen pounds, and while I didn't find any antlers, I did find a fawn's skull, mostly intact. It's only the second intact deer skull I've found since moving out here. Usually, the skulls are either gone entirely, or they're busted up from scavengers trying to get at the brains.
I plan to do another ruck on Saturday and I may go the same route and look for the lower jaw - I could wire it to the upper and display them. I guess some people might call my home decor macabre but I like skulls.
I'm glad it's almost time for dinner because all that hiking made me hungry.
