I took a selfie with Jeff Galloway!

We're back from Wine & Dine which actually went quite well for us. The weather was decent and no one's leg fell off or anything. I ran with Fox on both the 10k and half marathon and we kept things at an easy pace. He was scraping the bottom of the barrel towards the end of the half, but he did well for someone who hasn't been able to train. The leg pain didn't bother him too much, but we've figured out that part of his problem is how he "perches" in his desk chair at home. There's no good way to solve that problem aside from simply breaking the habit, so if I notice him sitting like that I'm supposed to nag him about it. He feels more confident now for Space Coast, but he's said he'll be doing a lot of walking on that one, and I should run my own race there. Space Coast is December 1, so I have a few more weeks to finish getting my mileage up there.

I'm not running today, mainly because I have a ton of things to do around here to get us back to normal. Laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, and just ... stuff. You know how it is.

There were a lot of Sandhill Cranes around. I kept seeing pairs of them in fields, flying over and calling, just ... lots of them. It was nice. I also heard an Owl while we were camping, but it's so warm here we shut the house back up and turned on the AC. Maybe next week it'll cool off again. In the meantime I'll be needing to get out early to run, since lows aren't dropping out of the 70s.

A couple of links for you as well:
10 Things to Do If Trump Wins under the idea of "hope for the best but prepare for the worst."

How To Not Freak Out, a skill I have not mastered myself. My central nervous system responds to everything like it's DEFCON 1. I mean, it's getting better but I've been conditioned to expect disaster at every turn and it's taking time to unlearn that response.

And I don't know if anyone else has been interested in this, but the internet's "most mysterious song" has been identified. Apparently the band that originally recorded it are now considering a reunion to re-record the now famous track.

Bake up a bunch of stuff and potentially have plenty to share with neighbors and friends. Feel free to leave comments with more recipes.

All about shokupan, aka milk bread. I've posted this one before, and this is a sort of master post that takes you through all the steps and explains what's going on. It seems long and intimidating but it's actually very easy. I like to knead a small amount of cocoa powder into some of the dough, then layer it into a cat-shaped baking pan to make calico kitty bread.

Monster Matcha Miso Cookies These cookies are awesome. I add white chocolate chips to mine. They're SO good.

Honk Kong Egg Tarts I don't know why I love these things, but I do. One of my favorite buffet places used to make good egg tarts. If you don't want to make dough, you can get away with buying frozen pastry dough, no one's going to judge you. Besides, mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, the blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere the ceremony of innocence is drowned; the best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.

Dorayaki I'm a sucker for these things. Packages of dorayaki are NOT safe in my house. I WILL eat them.

Sponge cake It's basic Japanese golden sponge cake. Simple, but with a lot of possibilities. Run slices under a broiler briefly, then top with whipped cream or ice cream. Strawberry short cake. General face stuffing.
