Puddle Jumping
Aug. 22nd, 2024 11:10 amIt RAINED. I mean, like it rained over five inches in the span of about four hours. There was this blob on the radar and it just sat over our little area here like "fuck y'all in particular." But the trenches and things people have been building and maintaining are generally working well and the water is draining off. In some places we have pretty gnarly washouts but nothing the truck can't handle. Getting the camper out of here might become a challenge, but by the time we're leaving for that trip, Fox and Kenny will have time (hopefully) to get out and do some serious road work.
I went to bed and woke up a short while later because the pounding rain had started up again. I was frankly surprised because I thought we'd get some scattered storms this week, but this was ... pretty intense.
I had to walk a while before I could start my workout this morning, but aside from being incredibly humid it wasn't too bad out there. I'm putting Marathon Maniacs aside until next year, though I could easily get into their sister club, Half Fanatics. HF's mascot is also a cartoon Vulture, so yay :D But I could enter the Jax half and easily knock that out.
Speaking of running, I have something I need to tell you all before we get too deep into racing season. I'm slow. Yes, I've won my age group at some local races and stuff like that, but I've yet to break five hours in the marathon, or two in the half. I have plenty of endurance, just no speed at those distances. I mean, in February I ran thirty two miles for giggles. It took me all day, but I did it, and if it hadn't been getting dark and I'd had a chance to eat and rest, I could have gone on. But I don't want to give anyone the impression that I'm some sort of athletic phenom.
I've got several food prepping tasks - snacks, lunches, and this all-purpose sauce that I like to keep on hand. I'm also still a little wiped out from this morning's run, so I'm going to make myself an extra cup of coffee and see how much I can get knocked out.
