Do Not Fret, Citizen
Oct. 14th, 2021 07:49 amWe got buzzed by a helicopter last night.
Fox was half awake and actually saw it, I was deeply asleep and it woke me up - and scared the hell out of me. This thing was probably as close to the ground as they are allowed to get here, which is about 500 feet if I'm not mistaken. So it wasn't actually in danger of hitting any of the radio towers, but as I was waking up and trying to process what that awful sound was, it sounded like it was on our roof. I have never been super close to a copter before anyway, so I wasn't prepared for how loud they can really be.
Unfortunately Fox doesn't have backup or archiving on his FlightAware so we may not find out much about what was going on. But I'll update this if we find out anything interesting.
I know Camp Blanding sometimes does night ops, and it's not unusual to have aircraft flyovers from either Blanding or NAS-Jax.
I would joke about black helicopters, but Fox said this had lights on it, and I think in the urban legends, black helicopters don't.
