It's Almost Time
Oct. 30th, 2024 06:50 amWe had a scare earlier this week when Fox's dad went to the hospital. At first we weren't sure why, but as calls went back and forth with his mom, it turned out he has a "lung infection," which isn't pneumonia, though at his age I doubt any lung infection is good. He's been sent home with meds and seems to be doing well. We've rearranged our trip to Disney a little - originally we were going straight to the campsite, since Fort Wilderness is in total chaos during Halloween. Now we're thinking we'll stop by their house and visit a while, then go directly to ESPN for packet pickup, then to our camping spot.
Saturday is the 10k, should be easy enough. It's like being here at home and running to the black mailbox at the "fancy ranch." So called because it went on the market a little while back and was being sold by Berkshire Hathaway. Fox and I are both planning to run this one easy, and as usual, if I see Marie out there at a character stop, I'm stopping. PRs be damned, I want a photo with someone dressed like a gigantic kitten.
Sunday is going to be confusing with the time change because it changes at 2 am, but we typically get up at 2 am on race mornings, so what time do we tell Google to wake us up? Honestly, I wish we'd get rid of this stupid back and forth and just pick a time. Anyway, that's half marathon day. I plan to stick with Fox as he runs it easy, unless for some reason I just feel amazing and want to speed on ahead. The plans are to finish and for him to try to aggravate his leg as little as possible. Then of course, pizza.
Today I have a few minor errands to run to get us ready - I'd rather not need to go to Publix or anything while we're there. But it's only a five night stay and we should be pretty well set up. We'll even have some stuff to prepare at the camper to save us needing to go out the night before the half.
