Flat Out

The past few days have not been great for me. I strained a muscle in my back - lower back so I guess a lumbar ... thing - while loading the dishwasher of all things. So carrying five gallon water jugs, moving logs, and running are all okay, but putting a plate into a rack that requires me to bend over slightly means now I can't move. Gotcha.

So I'm in pain and grouchy because I can't get it fixed, I can't genuinely rest, and I'm just tired and hurty. Also while I'm wasting time trying to heal this thing I am not getting anything else done. I'm doing my best but I get tired easily, and even though it's a lot better today, it still aches and hurts when I move certain ways.

- Last week I tried to start stretching my tragus, but the healed piercing is sharply curved and a straight barbell won't go through. I've ordered some new curved jewelry that ought to be here today, stuff with two externally threaded balls, since I don't want to deal with a captive bead in a ring this small.

- The Orb Weaver spiders are starting to come out. One built her web in front of the garbage can shed, but I was able to open the door and get my can out this morning while only breaking one anchor line. I also heard some Crows calling this morning, including one that makes knocking and bell-like calls. I'm not sure why this one bird has such a varied repertoire compared to the others.

- I occasionally check in on Loungefly to see if they're doing a backpack for Disney Marathon Weekend 2025, and I found they dropped a Mousercise bag recently. I'm SO close to just getting that instead of a RunDisney one. Pretty sure there would be a lot of delighted Gen Xers stopping me in the parks :D I mean, I'm humming the song right now.

- Fox came across a local honey dealer and beekeeping supply shop in north Jax, so we may head out that way soon to talk to them about setting up a hive next year. I may also need to buy a tub of creamed honey. Or two. I love honey. Anyway they have an interesting method of selling you bees - you can buy half a hive, including the queen, and they "rent" you a plastic travel hive so that you can take the bees home. Once they're in their permanent wooden hive, you bring the plastic racks back to the shop and get your deposit back. It's supposed to be a lot less stressful on the bees, easier on you, and you have less chance of a hive rejecting a new queen.

- I'm going to try a short, easy treadmill run today. I'm beginning to wonder if the back thing is related to my perpetually tight hamstrings, and what I suspect is a slightly weaker right leg, since that's the side I often get IT band pain on. I also had been slacking off on my yoga, which probably didn't help.
