What you're seeing is a screen capture from one of the cameras on our radio tower. It's grainy and crappy, yes, it's infrared. But along the horizon, those white things ... are fires.
There's a controlled burn going on in the Bayard Conservation Area - I think the St Johns Water District is doing it. I have no problems with these burns, they're needed. And I prefer the controlled variety to wildfires, which are genuinely scary. But this was an unnerving sight first thing this morning.
I like to check the cameras when I get up and see if any interesting animals came through the yard. Deer, armadillos, skunk apes, maybe a bear. So seeing that on the east-facing camera certainly gave me pause.
Anyway, I went to packet pickup for Gate River Run yesterday and nothing special. In and out. I like the way they've designated times to get your stuff, it was much less crowded and crazy. Today I'm just cooling it at home (except for eyeballing those fires) and prepping for tomorrow. We're not sure what we'll get up to post-race, usually Fox and I like to go eat and celebrate victories and/or drown our sorrows in queso.
I'm thinking of letting my hair grow back out some. I want to see how much gray I have. Not planning to color it - gray is a point of honor now. But it's getting a bit shaggy and I noticed the sides seem lighter. I like how cool and breezy the buzzcut is, though. As it gets long enough I may just go back to maintaining a side shave, the best of both.
