We went on a short trip and I , of course, got sick. I did a pretty good job of protecting myself, but I ended up in close quarters with some toddler who was doing that gross open-mouthed coughing thing they do, and I think I have whatever crud that little shit was spreading. So instead of getting to hit the ground running when I got home and start doing all the things I'd planned, I'm stuck on the couch because I'm so wiped out that just folding clean socks feels like it costs three times as many spoons as it ought to. The good parts here are that most of my symptoms are "above the neck," and it isn't Covid. But I feel like such absolute crap that working out isn't even a consideration, and I don't have the focus to do anything creative.
I mean, yesterday I activated "Remix" on Rain World and started going through all the different options. It wiped my original saves, but I'm okay with that. This game started out being frustrating as hell, and it still is, but now it's also deeply rewarding. Having actually completed a game re-focused my attention on the earlier parts of the story. I also now have 20XX and 30XX which I'm looking forward to starting up, but they might require better reaction times that I have right now.
Maybe I should try fasting - aren't you supposed to starve a cold? I'm pretty sure I have a head cold.
I know it's still hot outside, but fall's coming. The leaves on the poplar trees around here start turning first, and one of our neighbors up the road has a few in their yard that are very yellow now. We also have fledgling hummingbirds that have discovered the feeders, so we have WAY more Bird War outside. Yesterday I cleaned and refilled all the feeders - I may not feel well but that's no excuse to let the feeders get gross - and I discovered a little tree frog chillin' in one of the ant moats. Moisturized, in his lane, and flourishing. I also have noticed frog activity on the side of the garage. Every morning there's heavy condensation on the sheet metal, and underneath the light, there are lots of frog tracks where they wait for bugs to come to the light when it's on. There's a toad hanging around the front deck, and before we left a pygmy rattlesnake was curled up by a corner of the house. If it keeps coming around it'll need to be relocated - they're very small but their venom is still dangerous.
I swear if we go to Wine & Dine race weekend and I get sick with just weeks until Space Coast I'm going to lose my shit entirely. If I can stay healthy I may try taking on Blaze again - I can't just let that trail race kick my ass. I need to go back and let it kick my ass again.
