Apr. 13th, 2023 08:54 amSo I've already had a near panic attack this morning. The USPS Informed Delivery email shows a jury summons for me, but the first thing I saw was the county clerk of court's office logo and I could feel my heart rate shoot up. Not that a jury summons is any damn better than whatever I thought it originally was, I have zero desire to serve justice, and these people are not my peers. When I lived in Louisiana, you could avoid this shit by just acting like you never received the summons. I'm not sure how I'm going to get out of this one. The last time this happened, Kitty was still around and I was able to use the thing about caring for a handicapped person, or however that's worded.
On more positive news, Fox and I registered for Disney Marathon Weekend, securing a couple of Goofy Challenge spots. Either RunDisney learned from some of their previous registration debacles, or there's not as much interest since this is not an anniversary year and we're back to "normal" marathon weekend. Anyway, Goofy's Race-and-a-Half Challenge is the half and full marathon. Dopey includes the 5k and 10k, but Fox and I have complained to each other that the real challenge with that is getting up at 2 in the morning to go wait for almost three hours ... to run three miles? We can both live without the shorter races, as we're more interested in long distances anyway.
Wine and Dine Weekend is also "go," and I can use the half marathon that Sunday as a tune-up race ahead of the Space Coast Marathon. Last year I pinned my hopes on and tried to train for Central Florida Legends, the race where I had the flu, dramatically underfueled, and completely fell apart and fucked up. If I'm lucky this year I'll stay reasonably healthy and not get yet another round of Covid.
Speaking of fueling, I read an interesting study on endurance racers that suggested that if an athlete can tolerate it, they should try eating as much as four hundred calories per hour of racing. That is a lot of Gu. I wonder if upping my calorie intake that dramatically might help, but I'll need to order a case of gels, and maybe another case of those Honey Stinger pink lemonade gummies I like.
We've had some nice rain here over the last few days, though I do wish it would rain more. I know as the summer goes on it will rain more, but we usually end up in at least a mild drought condition by autumn. As for right now, my garden is looking decent, the pumpkin vines are starting to get larger, but not big enough yet to start guiding them to a trellis.
