pshaw_raven: (Noodles)
I started playing Rain World the other day and it's the most incredibly frustrating gaming experience - I love it. Rain World seems to actually have an ecosystem, rather than simply enemies. So it's not a matter of being "tough but fair" or anything like that, it's sometimes simply unfair, like life. Twice last night I emerged from a passage between rooms and fell right into the jaws of something that ate me. No opportunity to run or defend yourself, just death. Poor slugcat. :(

I normally try to go into games blind, but with playing Dead Cells I learned I can expand my enjoyment of the game and my ability to progress if I at least look some stuff up. So I've been doing the same with Rain World, and learned that I'd need to get the "Survivor" achievement to unlock a lot of other things in the game. It was annoying to me that nothing was popping - you actually have to unlock Survivor before you can do anything else. I also found some interactive maps on GitHub that are helping me not just keep going in circles. I spent most of one session in the Outskirts basically going between two hibernation chambers because I couldn't figure out where the fuck I was.

But for now I'm going to focus on progressing in Horizon Zero Dawn. I have until March 6 before Dead Cells' Return to Castlevania comes out, and I expect I'll be playing that a lot. Dead Cells is just a hell of a good game anyway. I can play several games at once, but it's better if I can focus more on one, two at most.

Recently I bought myself a couple of pairs of Loop earplugs, and today I got this email from them asking if I wanted to ... I forget how they worded it, but be in some sort of marketing conversation with them. I usually don't get tapped for things like this, and it's usually because people want to talk on the phone, but in this case it's an online conversation.

Oh shit, they probably mean Zoom or something. I've made a huge mistake. I was thinking it would be a chat platform. Shit shit shit

Never mind. When that email comes in I'll be ignoring it.

Fox and I are both GREEN WAVE for the Gate River Run!
WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF

Ahem. Sorry. After the adaptive athletes and the elite runners - that is, the folks likely to win, as this is a national championship race - there is Wave One of regular runners. It's divided into color groups, and will go blue, red, GREEN, orange, and black. Then wave two, three, four, and the walkers bring up the rear. I've only run Gate twice, and have always been back in that third wave. Actually, one year there were enough people that there was a fifth, purple wave which I think I was in.

So I guess I'd better get serious about this last couple of weeks of training. I want to look like I belong there. ;D
