Cheer And/Or Pray For Me
Jan. 5th, 2021 11:23 amI'm finishing my virtual Dopey Challenge tomorrow by running a treadmill marathon. Help.
Running outside and running indoors on the treadmill each have their own up and down sides. Outdoors has fresh air and changes of scenery. Indoors has clean bathrooms and entertainment. Indoors makes it easier to quit, and outdoors has dogs. So take your pick.
I have some podcasts lined up, and a fueling and hydration plan in place, though obviously I don't have to carry anything with me. But I even bought a bag of peanut M&Ms I can munch on at the halfway point, a nod to the old Disney course where the half mark was at Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom, and I'd stop to use the (nice, sit-down) bathrooms and buy a bag of candy in the gift shop. I also have yogurt pretzels to start munching on around mile 19, aka the Slough of Despond.
It's mainly going to be a mental challenge. Every long run has its mental and emotional component but on the treadmill it is going to be a lot more difficult to stick it out and finish when there's a big "STOP" button staring at me the whole time. So I guess part of my strategy is posting here for accountability.
Right now the plan is to get up even earlier than I usually do for breakfast, then after about an hour I should be ready to go. Fox says he can't hear the treadmill on the rec room end of the house so I won't bother him. And ... fingers crossed, tomorrow afternoon I can say I did it.
