Disney 5k Race Report
Jan. 9th, 2020 12:24 pmThis morning we ran the 5k, the first of the four races we need to complete for the Dopey Challenge. I didn't sleep at all well last night, despite having done this before I was nervous. Hopefully having been up since 2:30 will help me sleep better tonight. The official results aren't up on the site yet but according to Fitbit, I ran mine in 32:17. We're chilling at the hotel before heading to Blaze pizza this afternoon, but without further ado, here's a Google Photos link.
Some of that is snacks and drinks, but a few pics are of winter decorations still up at Animal Kingdom. They didn't have puppeteers out, but some of the sculptures and lights were still there. But we hadn't made any Fast Pass reservations so we just walked around a while and headed back. So, check out the medal -
Pluto is back on the 5k - last year they had Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. I think they'd just gotten that property back so he's on a bunch of merch now.
I might have cut some people off heading to the finish line but for the 5k I kind of don't care. The field is super crowded and I know I got cut off a bunch of times myself. Please don't just slow down and stop without some sort of warning, there are people running behind you and we don't want to run over you, but after the sixth or seventh time it becomes tempting. But it was a good course. We went into Epcot twice, basically weaving in and out between the World Showcase and backstage areas. There was some course-cutting apparently ... in a 5k ... if you need to cut course on a 3 mile run, maybe don't bother running.
Anyway it was a different course from previous years, due to the massive construction going on around the park. Ditto the 10k tomorrow, which I think might be the same as Wine & Dine but I don't remember and don't particularly care. I'm more curious what the half and full marathons are doing.
I'm going to crash out for a while and then go stuff face. :)
