pshaw_raven: (We Are Go)

At this point I will just admit I'm obsessively thinking about the Space Coast Marathon coming up on Sunday. I've been training for it all summer, so I guess I'm allowed to be obsessive. Starting time is at 6 am, so it'll be a "Disney race" in that we'll need to be up and at 'em early to make it to the starting area. Fox and I are staying Saturday in a hotel in Melbourne and just traveling very light. We can throw all our stuff in the truck and then head home after we've finished. Basically whoever is least dead will drive us to the nearest Wawa where we can rest and refuel. After running 26.2 miles, an iced peppermint mocha is definitely in order.

I hope this goes better than Central Florida Legends. But CFL had several problems, none of which seem to be issues this time. I had the flu, and my fever broke Thursday night, and I should have just not run, but we've already established that I'm a dumb runner, so I went anyway. I also didn't pack much nutrition, and then found the on-course gels were gross, so I had no fuel. This was also the race where I lost both big toenails. So, yeah, a lot went wrong. Weirdly enough, I was not the last place finisher.

This time I have a pair of wide toe Asics already broken in, plenty of gels on my person, and I haven't gotten sick so far. Especially with having a Disney trip earlier this month, I feel like that's a real achievement, but I was also pretty meticulous about masking and washing my hands, and I don't care if people get butthurt when I refuse to sit near their kids. Oh yeah, and the on-course gels for Space Coast are GU brand - a very familiar product for me, so no worries there. I have a bunch I'm going to be carrying, plus a couple of cookies to combat palette fatigue. I might get a Payday bar on the way down, I had some of those for a trail run this summer and they worked well for me.

I'm grateful to not be doing a massive amount of cooking today. I used to like it, Thanksgiving was a time to really show off my skills, but I got very tired of it once people started demanding dishes, refusing to help, and I'd get stuck doing cleanup myself, too, while everyone else got to enjoy their day. So I'm glad Fox doesn't like turkey much and neither of us exactly cares about the holiday. I'm making Neapolitan style pizzas. I mixed up the dough last night, and I have some fresh mozz and basil for topping. Gotta start carb loading.

Before I do much else I have a threshold run this morning, then a short shakeout run Saturday. I'm hoping to finally finish a marathon in under five hours, and Fox and my Garmin both think I can. I'm not so sure but we'll see. I even came up with a pacing strategy.
