The scans are called "OptoMap," and the machines are something like Optos ... It's pretty neat. You press your eye against the pad, and it lights up green or red to show if you're close enough, and then it almost instantly does the scan. The doctor can then show you images of your retina on a computer.

My previous doc would use that AND do some of the older tests, like she didn't quite trust the machine. The lady I've been seeing the past few years skips everything except the one where you have to focus on the hot air balloon (or the red barn), and then has you read some charts to fine-tune the prescription.
