I just got out all those perfume oil bottles and made the mistake of sorting through the boxes, and now I have oil on my fingers. Everything smells like roses and claustrophobia. There's SO MUCH of it. I was considering a pint jar but I think I may need to sacrifice a quart Mason jar, unless I use up a plastic bottle soon.
Poking around on Reddit about this I found a post in an anti-MLM group. The OP moved into a house where the previous owner had been running oil diffusers 24/7 almost. She said the house reeked of different scents to the point where it wasn't a scent anymore, it was a stench. There was oil all over the walls, but she and her husband got their cleaning supplies out and washed down everything and felt like they'd done a good job, until winter came. And when the heat turned on, more oil started to ooze out of the drywall. She said there were running oil slicks on some of the walls, where it was just dripping from the ceiling and everything. It sounds like a nightmare.
Much as I want to like some of these scents, my nose and brain aren't really wired for this. I can't smell half the things normal people can, and I misinterpret the things I can smell. Almost every single one of these smells exactly the same to me, and this happened when they first came through the mail. Five new scents ... that smell the same. One or two did differentiate themselves with distinct herbal or minty smells, but I'm not interested in keeping them.
Just thought I'd share.

Date: 2019-12-12 03:21 am (UTC)Yeah, that *does* indeed sound like a nightmare, I'm not sure I'd want to be in *that* house.
...
And you're really not supposed to run oil defusers all the time. Reed ones, maybe, but they don't require electricity, and you can always cap those fuckers.

Date: 2019-12-14 02:19 pm (UTC)I have a friend who is into Dutarra, we can ask her how long they say to run things of that nature if you like.
...
Gotta love idiots. *sighs*
~~Kaelaren~~ (Hello, I am sorry we did not warn you of the shift in people; Trausio has had to leave to help with the healing of some of our people. ... And we have still got the conditioned response of Kitty's fear ofbeing surprised by male ... fronters...for lack of a better term in us, so we have been trying to warn those of hers we still have contact with before hand...when it is the possible to do so)

Date: 2019-12-17 12:16 am (UTC)I would have also thought you should only use them briefly, too, but then you always seem to have people who think, "A little does some good so a whole lot should be REALLY good for me!" These are the same people you see getting kidney stones from eating pounds of spinach every day on weird diets.

You and I know this, it's surprising the number of people who don't though.

Date: 2019-12-12 03:48 am (UTC)My gosh - I didn't realize running oil diffusers did that! I can't even imagine.

Date: 2019-12-13 11:37 pm (UTC)I have never had one of the electric diffusers or anything that gets hot and sprays a mist - I've had the kind where you put reeds in a bottle and that spreads some scent. I think she meant things like the plug-in aromatherapy things, and I was under the impression you are only supposed to run them for a short time. But the mental image I got was like something out of a horror manga - Junji Ito would be proud.

Date: 2019-12-14 03:51 am (UTC)But still yikes! Now I'm paranoid about using my plug-ins because they run 24/7 as well. But they're the AirWick ones, so maybe I'm ok??
My youngest daughter runs a diffuser in her apartment pretty frequently. She thinks it smells good but I guess I've become sensitive to scents because I don't share her opinion lol. Now I'm wondering what it's doing to her walls!
