It's Almost Time

It's still hot here, but it's not nearly as bad as the miserable, soul-crushing heat of high summer. In a day or two, it'll drop a bit more. The local poplar trees are turning, and I occasionally walk into a spiderweb, so I know autumn is on the way. Hummingbird traffic is way down at my feeders but they haven't stopped coming entirely. Typically I take them down in late October, by which time the migrating stragglers have made their way further south. I'm also hearing the Barred Owls hooting more , so they're becoming active after being fairly quiet over the summer months. The fawns that come around early in the morning have lost most of their spots.
I ran yesterday in one of my older pairs of shoes and now have arch pain, so it's time to retire those. Just having a lot of weird joint aches and pains in general which I attribute to the changing weather. I've also slacked off on weight lifting, which I know would help a great deal, but it's hard to get my brain in gear to just go do it. The Steam Deck doesn't help since it facilitates lying on the couch. But does it really matter what else I'm doing on the couch? I could be reading a book, but either way, I'm not moving around, so it doesn't matter.
So in order to start hitting nutrition goals I'm going to have to meal prep and plan more. I'll get out some of my cookbooks after dinner tonight and do that. I may need to actually put stuff on a calendar or checklist to make sure I actually make and eat things, as I have a very bad, very stupid tendency to log foods in MyFitnessPal and then not actually eat them. And my appetite's been all over the place lately, with some days feeling not hungry at all, and some, like today, feeling ravenous enough to eat a whole camel. Unfortunately for me, Fox is still on a work call so dinner's being a bit delayed.

Thoughts
Date: 2023-09-15 07:38 am (UTC)I had one in my septic garden, and it wasn't on the cypress vine, it was down low. I suspect it may have been eating the insects swarming around the garlic chive and sedum blossoms.

Date: 2023-09-15 08:35 pm (UTC)My suggestion would be to plant things that produce many small florets. Native plants are a good bet to attract local pollinators. Among the things routinely swarming with tiny to small insects in my yard are goldenrods (native), garlic chives and sedum (exotic).

Date: 2023-09-16 06:26 pm (UTC):shudders: That was me but all the time living in GA. Even where I'm living now [a few states away] I refuse to walk through the forest of trees on the back of our property for that reason alone. My husband tells me he hasn't encountered any but that's not saying a lot. He's not noticing like I would & it doesn't bother him anywhere near as much as it does me.
Speaking of running shoes... My usual brand had been Brooks. But I found myself needing to replace them maybe around every 9 mo. Plus, finding wide width has been a challenge. I looked for something less expensive & last year bought Saucony, which I usually don't care too much for. What do ya know, they actually worked well for me & were comfortable. My current pair is Asics. I've worn them a few times & they exacerbate my old injuries. But I can't reconcile buying another pair of Saucony this soon :S But at the same time, each time I even use the Asics to go for a walk, my feet hurt. I can't do this a whole year; it won't be good for them. Blargh!! The struggle.

Date: 2023-09-18 11:08 am (UTC)Wide width running shoes are so hard to find in women's sizes. I don't mind the limited color selection but there are so few wide models to choose from. I usually go with Asics myself, I have a few different kinds in my rotation, but I haven't tried Saucony. I've developed this weird ball-of-the-foot pain that may be Morton's Neuroma, which you can help with wide toed shoes. I'm also trying to find something between a minimal shoe with no cushion, and the super-maximal cushionny shoes that are like running on a couple of folded-up blankets. Neither is doing me any favors right now, but finding something in the middle is difficult.
You might look for an outlet store. Getting to an outlet mall is kind of annoying, but we found an Asics outlet in Orlando that has pretty good prices on the higher end running shoes, and they often have sales, like buy a pair get a pair half off.
