My answer: Weejee boards, OMG. I am inclined to regard them as fake. I've never seen one do anything, and of course we all probably already know about how even if you try your best to not move the planchette, your muscles are going to still twitch and make small movements anyway. I've even messed with them by myself - something you're not supposed to do, I am told - and nothing happens. So, do ouija boards actually allow you to talk to spirits? Nope.
THAT BEING SAID.
If you're into surrealism, automatic writing, or the use of chance or unconscious means to produce writing, art, etc. a ouija board could be useful. Like with tarot cards, I don't think there's anything at work other than your own mind. You make the story. I think I pretty well outed myself as a skeptic in the post about bigfoot, so this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. At best I think they're a useful tool for creativity. At worst, they're something charlatans can use to prey on the superstitious and/or bereaved. Also, if you suspect that you are actually in a horror movie, don't use one.
I also kind of like them for "spooky aesthetic" and Halloween decor. I've been knocking around an idea for an Edgar Allen Poe themed board that I'd be decorating a small side table with using paint and pyrography (wood burning). Poe FTW.
