Ellipticals can be sort of fun. The treadmill is also helpful to me in that I can set the speed and not kill myself. Running on "normal ground" means sometimes I start off a lot faster than what I can sustain over the distance I mean to go. So I crash out and I'm still maybe a mile from my house, which isn't good. It's nice when a training plan says to do speedwork or hills and I can just make the treadmill do that instead of having to look at a map and figure out where some hills are.
