I was running in an old pair of New Balance shoes that I've had since 2016, so my first try at relieving the pain was to retire those and literally put them out to pasture as yardwork shoes, and start training in my Mizuno trail shoes. They've got more traction than the treadmill needs but so far I am having a whole lot less ankle pain, in general, and when I do feel soreness, it is less painful and shorter in duration so I will call that a win. Looks like I'd just run my old shoes into the ground (heheheh). But after the race I'm going to be taking about two weeks off from running entirely and then see how things feel before I do anything radical like seeing a doctor.
