Day of the Turkeys
Nov. 24th, 2022 01:53 pmFox and I aren't big holiday types, so Thanksgiving dinner is pretty simple. It's actually kind of warm today so I'm glad I don't have the oven going all day. Since I felt decent for the first time in ages, I got some house cleaning done, and we carried out a bunch of stuff to haul to the dump tomorrow. We had some old networking equipment that had been mounted on different towers and gone bad - a couple of pieces that were hit by lightning, that sort of thing. None of it's recoverable, so off to the trash it goes. Well, our dump likes you to put the electronics in a separate area. I'm also getting rid of more recycling, but we saw a notice that our curbside recycling is going to start again in December!
I ran a four-miler this morning and tried the Hokas, and they're not even good for a short run. By the time I got home I was having knee and glute pain and just ... annoyed with myself for spending so much money on shoes that are simply awful for me. Maybe they'll be okay to walk in, but I'm not running in these things any more. But I guess you learn by trying out new things. On a positive note, I saw a huge flock of Wild Turkeys while I was out - maybe twenty birds total.
We're also thinking of doing the Gate River Run again next March. Now that we're both into doing longer distances pretty routinely, a 15k is going to feel easy. And it'll give me a training goal to work on after the ultra. And Gate is a neat race around neighborhoods in Jacksonville and back and forth over the river. It's also the race where one year someone handed me a paper cup which I slammed back only to find it was vodka, not water. XD
This year I can also qualify for seeded placement - I was just looking at the requirements and realized both of us have run a 5k within the qualifying time, so we'd probably better go ahead and register soon before the start groups fill up.
Anyway. I'm going to go stretch out and do some yoga. No doubt the cats will come join me. Feisal in particular seems to enjoy showing off how bendy he is.
