We're having our first fire of the season! Over the weekend, Fox went onto the roof and got rid of all the fallen pine needles, and we cleaned out the chimney. He said it had maybe a quarter-inch of buildup, not nearly as bad as some of the "scary" chimneys you might see on YouTube. But we do it once a year because we burn a lot of pine, which can be gunky. The wood we put up in the spring had a chance to dry out nicely under cover on the back porch, so it caught easily, and now I have a nice little warm fire because it's 48 here. The cats aren't freaking out as much as they used to, so I guess they remember what fire is.

I found a workable recipe for the famous "Jack Jack's Cookie Num Num" from Disney World. Most of the recipes I've found call for using those shallow cups to get a perfectly round, thicker cookie, but not having any on hand, I need to make cookies the regular way. There's also a two-layer thing where you mix in half the chips, put down a layer of dough and flatten it, then mix more into the remaining dough, etc. Ain't nobody got time for that. This recipe yielded a very good, buttery cookie with more of a molasses flavor from the brown sugar (I recommend dark brown sugar if your grocery store has the option). I scooped out a half-cup of dough, and while the cookies did spread, they didn't "puddle." Highly recommended. I still have dough in the fridge and will bake up the last of it today.

Publix also had a sale on turkeys, because it's that time of year. Fox was telling me it was fifty cents a pound, so when I was out Monday I picked up a 22-pound bird. Even if you're not into Thanksgiving, it's cheap protein. We're going to put this one in the smoker.

That trip out Monday was the mammography appointment, which was uneventful, and the scans all came back negative. See you guys again next year, I guess.

Slowly getting more art and writing done, and some of it posted. With "Over the Mountain," I've started rolling to see what sort of people, things, etc I'm supposed to use, then I let that stew in my brain for a little while before writing up my entry. I should have Day One's last entry up today, and I had an idea for a St. Felix piece because I misheard "watchword." That one will also have a short comic with it. I'm trying to figure out how to integrate social media posts into the stories - should I make "screenshots?" Should I just ... cite them? I don't think I've seen this done in fiction much, not that people aren't doing it. It's not that novel of an idea, just a different kind of epistolary story. I already figured that time and date stamping the posts helps, and I might cook up usernames or handles for the people posting.
