Hair Apparent
Jun. 28th, 2022 02:45 pmI know we're always being told not to cut our own hair. Actually I've been cutting and trimming my own hair for a couple of years, not just because of Covid, but because I'm an introvert and I hate being trapped in a chair making small talk to someone with a pair of scissors in her hand. Actually I like the stylist I've been seeing lately, but bless her heart, I keep asking for a side shave and she keeps not doing it. I keep ending up with a sort of Golden Girls short cut that reminds me of my mom. So yeah, today I dug out the clippers and just did it myself. I wonder if I'm simply not asking for the right thing, but I also have photos on my phone of what I want, so that shouldn't be as much of a problem.
I'm tempted to try booking at a barber shop. Maybe a male stylist will actually do what I'm asking for. Or should I start calling it a mohawk, rather than side shave, so that there's no ambiguity? Or just keep working on my skills at home and maybe invest in one of those wall-mounted swing arm mirrors.
Anyway, our new neighbors have mostly moved in now, and Fox already spoke to them. They seem like nice, normal people who are not bagpipe enthusiasts, don't plan to open a pit bull rescue, and aren't super keen on exercising their second amendment rights. In fact, the wife is a "cat person," so it sounds like I won't have to go slumming on Facebook to find a pet sitter. He's an ex-Marine, she's a heavily tattooed home-schooler, and the kids are like three, five, and seven. Or thereabouts, I'm terrible at guessing ages. Also the dude LOOKS like an ex-Marine. Or as Fox was joking, "I know I can't take him in a fight, but I could outrun him." They seemed really impressed that we're runners, and asked him if that wasn't his wife they saw out one morning "all the way out by the berry patch." Lady, I was just getting warmed up when I was passing the berry patch, LOL.
I also started playing Celeste. Holy shit, they're not joking about that game being hard. I even have some assists turned on and it's no joke. There's a dash assist that's incredibly useful to me - as you dash, everything pauses and an arrow comes up to show which direction you're going. It's worth playing, though, it's a really well made game, and the soundtrack is great. I know, I say that about a lot of games, but I like a good game soundtrack.
Kind of feeling like following up on something Fox pointed out to me this weekend and driving out to the Palatka-Lake Butler Trail for a bike ride. Maybe closer to the weekend depending on what the weather does. I'm still hopeful we'll get some rain, it's been bone-dry here. It rains everywhere around us, and not a drop in this little area.
