Have I mentioned lately how much I hate Facebook?

I got added by some random dude, an older guy, but he already had a couple of mutual friends and wasn't the usual "thirsty guy" profile - no friends, no "about," only pics are a handful of selfies. And apparently he either can't read or doesn't pay attention.

First, he sends me a note on FB Messenger, which won't integrate with my tablet, so I don't really see it for a few days.

It says something like, "Hello, ma'am"
 
I'm not a "ma'am." It's in my profile - agender/nonconforming, pronouns are they/them. So, you can't respect someone's identity, and you're randomly messaging me I assume because you think you might get lucky. I'm blocking this idiot. I have to wade through enough bullshit on FB - thank goodness for Groups. At least then I can keep up with the things I actually care about (mostly fitness and Zox groups) and not have to slog through endless unfunny memes, one like equals one prayer, and hey buy some Scensty/It Works/whatever the hell someone is selling.

I actually don't participate in any form of social media. none.
I don't own a cell phone. (I do have a landline, and obviously, internet)

one of the reasons is people like that. :/

I hear ya. FB is probably the most social of social media I use. I don't count things like Goodreads or DW. I'm also not on Instagram or any of the chat things, as you say, because of people like that.

I also ended up putting my cell phone on massive lockdown and I'm happier for it.

I'm convinced all those things are bad for ya, anyway. makes people...crazy, for lack of a better word.
my teenage boy and his generation are so obsessed with social media & technology in general. it just can't be healthy. just. can't.

It's a total dumpster fire, and if it weren't for some close friends and family that only use FB I'd have deleted my account ages ago.

Facebook is pretty much hopeless. I often want to delete mine, but it's the only way to keep in touch with most relatives and distant friends these days, since no one likes to write a letter, talk on the phone, etc...anymore it seems. I was annoyed last week when I got some friend request from a relative, only to find out it was actually a cloned account and not actually them. Ugh. Such crappy people on there.

Same here. Some friends actually are on here, and they're slowly finding my journal and adding me in. But my mom and sister only use FB so I kinda feel like I have to keep up there.

Plus I'm in some actually very nice groups with next to no drama, very positive. So FB Groups for Android saves my bacon.
