I keep twitter around for breaking news and keeping up with friends who use it, but a lot of the it seems it seems, like you say, that we have to process everything much faster or it ends up forgotten. Part of the reason I stuck with LJ/DW is because I like the slower pace here. One post every few days where I get things out and can ramble a bit, rather than always needing another hot take.
I also think about attention in terms of internet ads. I broad-spectrum block everything everywhere, but I was just reading a heartbreaking article by a woman who had a miscarriage, stayed off social media for a week, and came back to ads everywhere for baby stuff, just like she had been getting for a month.
