Strava Shit Segments

Strava woke up and chose to alienate even more of their user base by locking out third party apps and revoking your ability to share data with anyone, on any platform, for any reason. Coaching apps are useless now, unless you're able to sync them directly with your activity tracker. For example, I have Final Surge, through which I can use the Greg McMillan training plans I've bought. FS allows me to connect to Garmin, and looking down the list, it looks like every other major sports watch, as well as Strava.

There doesn't seem to be much reason for this, or anyway no reason Strava has deigned to share. "Privacy" seems to be the excuse given, which to me is always suspicious in the same way that a parent beating you is "for your own good." Apparently you'll have privacy whether you want it or not, because they said so.

Strava already pissed off a lot of users when they introduced their premium version. Instead of rolling out nifty new features to entice you to pay them money, they just paywalled a bunch of already popular things that had been free before, like segments. I have two followers on Strava, one of which is Fox, and the other is someone I assume I ran near at RunDisney who gives me kudos about once a week, and who I keep forgetting to return kudos to because I don't have the app and use Strava's web interface.

tl;dr Strava continues its enshitification, runners gripe.
