Sorry to hear about your infection. Coincidentally, I've also been feeling pretty horrible for a little while and even took the day off work today due to it. Definitely an infection or something of that nature. Not very pleasant at all.

But in regards to NES, I loved the original! Unfortunately I never read the book it's based on, but the movie was one I really enjoyed as a boy. As for remakes, that's a whole other kettle of fish. I haven't seen any new movie in years, and frankly I don't have much enthusiasm for anything high budget these days. Although, maybe it'll be fantastic. Stranger things have happened ;-)
