I think the tax incentives go down each year until, at some point, they stop. I don't know when that is. They're still in effect this year, but I'm not at all clear on the details.

If you want to stay up during an outage, you'll need a battery system. The array we have right now, with no battery, looks to the Clay Electric grid for its neutral, and if the grid's down, there's no neutral, and the array won't work. I think there are a few other work-arounds for that, but the easiest is the battery. We're thinking about a smallish one that would charge during the day and then power a few things overnight, like box fans, the fridge, etc.

I think we're going to like our system but our insurance STILL hasn't approved the extra liability for it. We were joking about maybe getting to turn it on before the end of the month, but now it's looking more and more like April.
